Today Moscow hosted another Defence Ministry Board Session chaired by the General of the Army Sergei Shoigu at the National Centre for State Defence Control.
Opening the meeting, the head of the military department reminded the participants of two important events of the current month - the ARMY International Military-Technical Forum and the International Army Games.
As Sergei Shoigu emphasized, this year the forum will become the first congress and exhibition event of the international level in the field of defence.
“Large-scale exhibition, demonstration, scientific and business programs, cultural and historical entertainment events are planned. About 1.5 thousand organizations and industrial enterprises will present more than 28 thousand exhibits. Almost 700 units of modern weapons and military equipment will take part in the static and dynamic demonstration,” the Minister of Defenсe said.
In addition, over 180 scientific and business events are envisaged on topical security issues, the development of the production and scientific and technical potential of the country's military-industrial complex. Bilateral meetings and negotiations with heads of delegations of foreign states will be held on the sidelines of the Forum.
“We expect representatives from 92 countries. 18 delegations will be headed by ministers and deputy defence ministers,” the head of the military department said.
Sergei Shoigu also highlighted the upcoming International Army Games. He noted that for two weeks, the skills and professional skills of 156 teams from 32 countries will be demonstrated at the training grounds of five states.
“The games program includes 30 contests. In addition, we are presenting three new competitions, which we will start holding from next year. This is a tactical shooting competition, overcoming a complex obstacle course with the implementation of firing missions and a competition among specialists of the military topographic service "Reliable landmark", added the Minister of Defenсe.
Turning to the agenda of the meeting, the head of the military department proposed to discuss the issue of training command personnel.
“Today this is one of our priority tasks. It is on the broad outlook, comprehensive education and military skill of the command staff that the success of solving the complex tasks facing the Armed Forces depends,” the head of the military department said.
Sergei Shoigu stressed that the experience of training leadership personnel accumulated at the Military Academy of the General Staff, which created all conditions for the development and professional growth of senior command personnel, deserves special attention.
The staff of the academy currently unites highly qualified teachers and researchers, more than 60 percent of whom have combat experience. Thanks to their professionalism, innovative and classical teaching methods are successfully combined in the educational process.
The academy has 16 military-scientific schools on topical areas of development of military science and military art. This contributes to the high-quality training of specialists in the management of the military organization of the state.
The electronic educational environment is rapidly developing, the material and technical base is being improved. Today, 52 percent of the total number of hands-on sessions delivered in a simulated dynamic environment provides sustainable organizational and management skills for modern operations.
Last year, the Academy of the General Staff recreated refresher courses for commanders of military districts, heads of central bodies of military command and their deputies. They are trained in the most pressing issues of military strategy, operational art and military command.
The entire leadership of the Ministry of Defenсe of the Russian Federation is actively involved in the educational process.
The advanced training methods used at the General Staff Academy are highly regarded by foreign military experts. Currently, servicemen from 35 friendly states are being trained there.
"In general, the system of training senior officers has a high potential for improving and training military leaders who are ready to solve tasks in the field of ensuring Russia's military security and to protect its citizens," the Minister of Defenсe noted.
The Board will discuss the implementation of the activities of the Office of the Chief of the NCB Protection Troops of implementing the May decrees of the President of Russia, his instructions following the meetings in Sochi and his Message to the Federal Assembly.
“Along with their direct mission, the NBC protection troops are actively involved in solving various peacetime tasks. In the context of the fight against the spread of the new coronavirus infection, the NBC protection specialists disinfected 560 objects in 140 settlements outside the Russian Federation. More than 260 thousand objects with a total area of 52 million square meters have been processed on the territory of our country,” the head of the military department said.
In addition, Sergei Shoigu added that with the direct participation of the 48th Central Scientific Research Institute of NBC Protection Troops and the Main Military Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Defence developed and registered the world's first vaccine against a new coronavirus infection on August 11 of this year.
At present, by decision of the President of the Russian Federation, the combined detachment of the NBC protection troops is taking part in measures to eliminate environmental pollution in Usolye-Sibirskoye city, Irkutsk Region.
The development of the NBC protection troops remains one of the important areas of the Armed Forces' activities. They are equipped with modern weapons, military and special equipment. By the end of 2025, this figure should be 85 percent.
“By the end of the year, it is planned to supply the troops with a new heavy flamethrower system TOS-2, which has an increased range and power. Shooting with the use of TOS-2 will be practiced at the Kavkaz 2020 strategic exercise. This system will significantly increase the combat capabilities of groupings of troops in strategic directions,” the Minister of Defence said.
