Issues on the preservation of historical memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War will be discussed at the Army-2020 Forum

Within the frameworks of the congress program of the International Military-Technical Forum "Army-2020", the round-table discussion will be held on the following topic: "Heroes and antiheroes. Truth and myths about the Great Patriotic War".

In the current situation, it becomes especially important to preserve the historical memory of the heroes who defended the freedom and independence of people of Russia and other countries. The documents and materials from declassified federal and departmental archives about the Great Patriotic War will be presented in the course of this event.

The participants of the round-table discussion will analyse the methods and countermeasures against the falsification of the events of the war of 1941–1945, and they will provide an expert analysis of modern approaches to the investigation of events at the Soviet-German and Soviet-Japanese fronts.

It is planned to involve leading historical scientists, representatives of legislative and executive authorities, veteran and public organizations, as well as representatives of the military-diplomatic corps of foreign states in this discussion.

The round-table discussion will be organised by the Research Institute (of Military History) of the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

The event will be moderated by: Ivan I. BASIK, Head of the Military History Research Institute of the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces; Mikhail Yu. MYAGKOV, Scientific Director of the Russian Military Historical Society, and Vladimir V. GAVRISCHUK, Principal Advisor of the Executive Office of the Federation Council Committee of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

The events of the congress program of the International Military-Technical Forum "Army-2020" will be held from 24 till 28 of August, 2020 at the leading exhibition site of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, at Patriot Expo, as well as in the form of live video conference with leading scientific and technical sites located in different regions of the country from St. Petersburg to Khabarovsk.

The official representative of the Forum organizer is the Chief Directorate of Scientific Studies and Engineering Support of Advanced Technologies (Innovative Research) of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation.
