FIRST SERIAL-PRODUCTION NEWEST NON-NUCLEAR-POWERED SUBMARINE "PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY" HAS BEEN ACCEPTED BY THE NAVY
The ceremony of accepting the first diesel-electric submarine "Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky" under project 636.3 by the Russian Navy took place today at the Admiralty Shipyards plant in St. Petersburg. According to the order of Admiral Nikolay EVMENOV, the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, the submarine was accepted by the Russian Navy, and it will become a part of the formation of the Pacific Fleet submarines. The Andreevsky flag was solemnly raised on the submarine.
Vice Admiral Andrei VOLOZHINSKY, the Chief of the General Staff of the Navy of the Russian Federation, took part in the ceremony of accepting the diesel-electric submarine "Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky" by the Russian Navy, and on behalf of Admiral Nikolay EVMENOV, the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, congratulated the commander and the crew of the submarine on this significant event and also thanked the shipbuilders of the Admiralty Shipyards plant for their efficient work on the serial production of non-nuclear-powered submarines for the Submarine Forces of the Russian Navy.
That day, the crew of the submarine and shipbuilders were congratulated by Aleksandr BUZAKOV, Director General of the Admiralty Shipyards plant, and Igor VILNIT, Director General of the Rubin Central Design Bureau.
In their speeches, they emphasized that the 636.3-series of submarines for the Pacific Fleet would have better performance and technical characteristics.
Anton YUSUPOV, III rank Captain, Commander of the diesel-electric submarine "Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky" noted that "the crew of the submarine had received excellent comprehensive training at the Navy’s training centre, had efficiently and professionally supported all stages of the submarine tests and was ready to continue service in the Pacific Fleet’s Submarine Forces".
The most advanced training complexes were used for crew training, which allowed to provide training to the personnel of individual military units in performing special-purpose missions, as well as to the naval combat units in operating torpedo and missile weapons.
The submarine has successfully passed sea trials and state tests in the Baltic Fleet waters demonstrating its design characteristics.
At the Admiralty, during the operational meeting under the leadership of Admiral Nikolay EVMENOV, the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, the results of state tests of the "Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky" diesel-electric submarine (project 636.3) were discussed. It was noted that the submarine had demonstrated all planned design and technical characteristics by completing the test programme including scheduled submerging operations.
"For the series of non-nuclear-powered submarines under project 636.3, which are built for the Submarine Forces of the Pacific Fleet, new technical solutions are being implemented for a number of life support systems and radio-technical weapons. The main feature of the first diesel-electric submarine "Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky" and other submarines of this series intended for the Pacific Fleet is that they are built in compliance with the specific features of their operation in the maritime zone of the Far East", Admiral Nikolay EVMENOV said earlier summarizing the results of the meeting held prior to the acceptance of the diesel-electric submarine "Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky" by the Navy.
