The Head of the Main Directorate for Research and Technological Support of Advanced Technologies (Innovative Research) of the Russian Defence Ministry summed up the results of the first day of the International Military-Technical Forum ARMY 2020.

"Traditionally, the current forum began to surpass the records of previous years at the stage of preparation. But if earlier we predicted this for several months, this year the peak activity of guests and participants fell on the three-week period before the official opening day.

Today, starting the second day of the forum, we can talk about several new achievements.

In comparison with last year, we see growth in three key indicators at once: by the number of exhibitors-1,457 enterprises and organizations (in 2019, there were 1,254); by the number of samples of military and dual-use products-28,043 (in 2019 – 27,239); as well as the number of planned events of the scientific and business program – 186 conferences, meetings, briefings and round tables (in 2019 – 173)," - Major General Andrey Goncharov gave the statistics.

The static display of weapons, military and special equipment available at the Russian Defence Ministry has 373 units, 320 units of which are located in "Patriot" park.

In the demonstration pavilion on the static display of the presentation zone "Aviation cluster" there are expositions of leading enterprises of the aircraft industry. At the same time, the key exhibits are Su-57 and MiG-35 aircraft, Mi-28nm and Mi-28ne helicopters, as well as the "Okhotnik" unmanned aerial vehicle.

Open air static exhibition in Kubinka, 44 equipment pieces are presented.

For 6 years, the forum has become a Russian brand and has become one of the world's best platforms for demonstrating weapons and military equipment. The exhibition continues to acquire new qualities and properties: it implements unique formats on its site, debuts novelties in the field of weapons and technologies, which become resonant premieres for the world community.

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin delivered a congratulatory speech to the participants and guests of the forum and the Army games in a video message. Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin and Defence Minister of the Russian Federation General of the Army Sergei Shoigu congratulated the participants and announced the solemn opening of these two large-scale events.

Representatives of the military-industrial complex, scientists, developers and testers of the latest weapons, representatives of the state customer, and military experts took part in the first day of the international military-technical forum "ARMY-2020".

The number of participants and guests testifies to the growing interest in the exhibition, both at the Russian and international levels.

He also added that, the opening ceremony of the "ARMY 2020" forum and the Army games was attended by representatives of defence department's delegations from 92 foreign countries, including: at the level of heads of the defence department-7 States (Abkhazia, Armenia; Guinea-Bissau; Iran, Sudan, Central African Republic; South Ossetia); at the level of chiefs of General staff (Deputy Defence Ministers) - 8 States (Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Myanmar, Serbia); at the level of commanders of types (branches) of troops arriving on behalf of the heads of defence departments (heads of state) – 3 States (Algeria, Vietnam, Pakistan); at the expert level-9 States (Azerbaijan, China, Djibouti, France, Greece, Laos, Morocco, Rwanda, Uzbekistan); at the level of representatives of foreign embassies in the Russian Federation - 65 states.

On the first day of the forum, four bilateral meetings were held between Russian Defence Minister General of the Army Shoigu and the Defenсe Minister of the Republic of Abkhazia, the Defenсe Minister of the Republic of Armenia, the Defenсe Minister of Iran, and the Defenсe Minister of the Central African Republic with the signing of intergovernmental agreements on military cooperation.

In addition, three bilateral meetings were held through the Federal Service for Military and Technical Co-Operation (with China, India and Morocco).

Representatives of 92 foreign countries took part in the plenary session under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Yuri Borisov. The event was also attended by heads of state authorities and leading industrial enterprises, scientific organizations, as well as the leadership of the central military administration bodies and military universities.

Linguistic support for foreign delegations was provided, as well as simultaneous translation of the plenary session into three languages (English, Arabic and French). Interpreters were present at the entrance groups, information stands and stands of national expositions of foreign countries (87 interpreters were involved).

A dynamic display of weapons and military equipment samples at the Alabino test site was organized for foreign delegations.

The Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, General of the Army S. Shoigu, inspected the exposition of the aviation cluster. As part of the flight program, demonstration flights were conducted to demonstrate the maneuverability of Su-57 aircraft with a second-stage engine and MiG-35 aircraft with a full set of weapons suspended.

He also added that, by tradition, a demonstration of new products of the domestic defenсe industry complex was organized for guests and participants of the IMTF ARMY 2020. The Head of the Main Directorate for Research and Technological Support of Advanced Technologies (Innovative Research) of the Russian Ministry of Defence recalled that the latest and promising models of weapons and military equipment are presented at the Patriot Exhibition and Convention Centre, such as T-14 "Armata" tank; tanks support combat vehicle BMPT-72; the T-90M tank; IFV T-15 with combat module "Kinzhal"; 152 mm IAS 2С35 "Coalition-SV"; SZAK 2С38 "Derivation-AD"; self-propelled mortar "Drok" on the basis of the car "Typhoon-airborne"; T-80БВМ tank; BTR "Bumerang" K-16 with a combat unit BMP-17; air defense missile system 9К317М "Buk-M3".

During the first day of the forum, guests and participants were given a rare opportunity to see the exhibit of the main battle tank, which is in service with the People's Liberation Army of China (ZTZ-96B). The tank was delivered from Alabino and placed on the platform in front of the forum's press center.
