NEW POLICE ARMORED VEHICLE IS BEING DEVELOPED IN RUSSIA

A new police armored vehicle is being developed in Russia, - Aleksandr KRASOVITSKY, Director General of the Military Industrial Company (MIC LLC), told the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti.
The design will take into account the experience of developing and testing the Atlet armored vehicles. The first demonstration of this vehicle should take place in August at the "ARMY-2020" Forum.
"It (new vehicle - Ed.) will probably be more export-oriented. Its official name is "VPK-23136 Special-purpose armored vehicle with the elements of the Atlet armored vehicle". In fact, we are developing a new dual-purpose armored vehicle", explained KRASOVITSKY.
He reminded that preliminary tests of two Atlet prototypes have been successfully completed. The state tests of the new armored vehicle are scheduled for May.
The new generation of Atlet armored vehicles has a 4x4 wheel arrangement and is intended for the transportation of personnel and military cargo. It provides a high level of protection, trailers towing, and weapons mounting.
The main differences between the new vehicle and the Tigr armored vehicle are the payload capacity increased up to 1,600 kg, the increased mine and ballistic protection level, the more powerful Russian-made diesel engine YaMZ-5347-24, which can generate up to 240 horsepower.
The vehicles of the standard type are equipped with anti-traumatic seats for all crew members, and an air conditioning system is provided in the cabin. Depending on its modification, the Atlet armored car can transport from two to eight fully-equipped servicemen.
