Russian Minister of Defence General of the Army Sergei Shoigu held another session of the Board of the military department
Today the Russian Minister of Defence General of the Army Sergei Shoigu has held another session of the Board of the military department in the “Patriot” congress and exhibition centre.
The members have discussed the activities of the Western MD for 2016-2020 as well as the preparations for the International military and technical forum Army-2016.
In his speech, the Minister of Defence claimed that the military and political situation near the western borders of the state remained unstable. The USA and other NATO member-states continue building-up their military potential, the intensiveness of combat training activities has been doubled.
The Minister of Defence highlighted the great concerns aroused by the installation of the US Anti-Missile Defence elements in Eastern Europe.
According to the Head of the Military department, it is possible that after the Warsaw NATO Summit the scale of military presence and activities of the Alliance will significantly grow.
He mentioned that in order to neutralize the possible threats, the Western Military District organized strategic deterrence activities.
According to General of the Army Sergei Shoigu, great attention is attached to the re-equipment of formations and military units of the District with modern hardware. Intensive military training contributes to the accomplishment of the assigned missions. A number of command-and-staff trainings have been organized with the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus. The Plan of use of the Regional grouping of forces was signed this February.
Moreover, preparations for the command-and-staff exercise of the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Force “Interaction-2016” (to be held this August in the Western MD) have been started. It will be participated by servicemen from Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.
Passing to the activities of the Baltic Fleet, the Head of the military department noted the importance and the specific character of its missions as well as the military and political situation in the western strategic direction. On April 1, 2016 the 11th Army Corps was formed within the Baltic Fleet.
The Russian Minister of Defence also paid attention to the International military and technical forum Army-2016 which is to take place on August 6-11 in the Congress and exhibition centre “Patriot”.
Over 400 enterprises of the Military industrial complex as well as about 100 foreign delegations are to participate in the event.
Moreover, according to General of the Army Sergei Shoigu, the first International exhibition “Intellectual industrial technologies – 2016” will take place within the Forum.
