"CONTAINER" OVER-THE-HORIZON DETECTION SURVEILLANCE RADAR COMBAT CREWS ENTERED COMBAT DUTY IN 2019
In the Russian Aerospace Forces, the Container-type over-the-horizon detection surveillance radar combat crews entered the combat duty (Kovylkino settlement in the Republic of Mordovia).
The radar combat crews took part in the state tests. In cooperation with the commission, they conducted all inspections and tests for the station. This is the first sample of such product in the country. According to the state rearmament programme and the activity plans of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, more samples of this station will be deployed and put into operation.
The modern radar station, which entered its pilot combat duty on December 1, 2018, is capable to track simultaneously the movement of air targets at a distance of more than 2 thousand km from our state border. The station can detect the large-scale take-off of aircraft and cruise missiles, determine the trajectory parameters of individual targets, including tactical and strategic aviation aircraft, as well as hypersonic aerial vehicles. It should be noted that aircraft made using the Stealth technology are not "invisible" for the over-the-horizon detection radar station of the "Container" type.
In the future, a continuous radar field for aerodynamic targets will be created, which will be similar to the early-warning radar field. The first object to enter the combat duty was the over-the-horizon detection radar station of the "Container" type. The radar complex includes four radar sectors and covers the entire European part of the Russian Federation and the Middle East countries.
Over-the-horizon radars are a type of radar stations designed for ultra-long-range airspace reconnaissance. They reveal the enemy’s intentions long before the corresponding air-attack weapons are set and launched to attack or provoke situation of crossing the border.
